              It's not you someone has put a "Gagging Order" on our posts so if they don't agree in what our opinions are they can wipe them away - I will not be putting any posts on until someone can say what is happening to our Forum!!!

well i knew it wasnt me . cant believe that someone can not only remove a member of the forum , for very little if any reason , but can wipe the memory of any conversation having taken place .

OUTRAGEOUS and how jim and bob were made to trot out out all that tripe was unbelievable . my resignation from RUM is on the way jean  . if you have cashed my cheque i would like a refund please .  by the way please delete all records of my cars existance from your records - dont say it cant be done youve shown how it can be done

Oh dear Richard, I am so sorry that your are so upset.  Please, whilst the Forum is a talking shop for all enthusiasts of microcars it is NOT CONTROLLED by the Register of Unusual Micrcocars or RUMCAR NEWS.  It is just another service we are trying to offer the enthusiasts.  Neither Chris, Bob or I have had anything to do with removing posts or threads, we are not trying to stifle opinions.  I am truly disappointed to think that you feel this is the case and I trying to do my best to find out what has gone wrong on this occasion. I am fairly certain that there no conspiracy to delete things.

One "feature" that I believe I am going to have to disable is that once you reach a certain level of posts you are allowed certain privileges automatically.

One of those is that you are allowed to delete a topic that you started.

I cannot find any record in the "moderation log" of any moderators or administrators deleting the original topic so until shown otherwise I have to assume that Stuart deleted the topic since he started it in the first place and it appeared to be resolved.

I can only echo Jeans words, I have deleted nothing and do not have the authority or ability to ban anyone from using the forum. Moderators exist to remove unwanted advertising spam, foul language, pornography and things of that nature. Very very rarely has anything been removed. When we find out whats happening we will let you know.   Bob

rubbish.  I find no evidence of this in the administrator moderation logs.
Other than the single "Where's Al?" topic do you have any evidence of anything else?

I posted a possible explanation in Richard's previous post about this.  I may merge the topics since they are essentially duplicates.

I am going to modify the "permissions" area so that people cannot delete their own topics after they start them.  That, and that alone is what I believe to be the "problem".

UPDATE- I just "merged" Richard's 2 topics on this into one cohesive topic.  
UPDATE 2- I have just changed "permissions" for everyone who is NOT a moderator that one can no longer DELETE a topic that they started as this simple act appears to cause everyone to get their knickers in a knot.

I have received emails that there is a "riot on the forum" and an "uproar".  So far it seems to simply be that Richard cannot find the original "Where's Big AL?" topic.
I believe I have solved that mystery. If anyone has evidence or suspicion of some other "missing" posts, please address them here.

You have a record at your fingertips:
Click on the PROFILE button.
You will then see YOUR profile.  (you can also do this for anyone else simply by clicking on their username)
Once you see YOUR profile, look to the left and under PROFILE INFO click the "Show Posts" link
You will get a new page that shows ALL your posts, with the most recent one first.
You personally have 21 PAGES of posts, here is a shortcut to your list of existing Posts:

there are known knowns , things that we know we know. There are known unknowns, things that we know we don't know. There are unknown unknowns, things that we don't know we don't know .
i do know how to look at my own profile , and i do know how to read my posts . what i didnt know is that someone could remove my history  of what i had posted . as i dont know what else i have posted recently i guess i will never be sure ever again .

over and out - havent rescinded my comments to jean re RUM and as i cant be deleted from the card files i will enquire as to whether i can be deleted from any computer files .

          I'm confused - before you altered the Forum today someone ( who ) reached a Standing on the forum could delete the thread they started - can you tell who that someone was? after today you have to be a Moderator to affect a post ( or delete somebody? ) who decides how many moderators there are ( are the more than 4? ) how can a moderator delete somebody or a thread or is it just you - utterly confused!!!!!!!!!

after looking through the Permissions on the forum it appears that almost everyone was able to delete a TOPIC that they started.

correct- sort of, you can still modify your own posts to correct them after you have posted them but you can no longer delete them.
I previously had that feature disabled but got some complaints about it so I put it back in.

until now it has just been me deciding who has enough wits about them to be a moderator.
The only person I have ever actually seen doing any "moderating" is Bob and that was only a couple of times.
So far I have not seen any evidence of anyone abusing the privilege.
I try to stay out of the "moderating" aspect as much as possible.  I try and deal with the technical aspects of the forum.

Yes a moderator CAN delete or alter a post or an entire thread but they cannot delete a user. 
There are two Administrators to the forum that can do that.  Chris Thomas and myself.

When a moderator does something, there is LOG ENTRY made in the forum.  This log entry cannot be altered until at least 24 hours have passed.

and as I write this I just got an email from Stuart saying he is no longer able to log in.
This appears to be a technical issue at this time and I will treat as such until presented with evidence to the contrary.

I am now going out to dinner.

I have been enjoying the harmless banter for ages on his site and rarely posting as my little collection of micros is ticking along in various states of disrepair and no urgent help has been needed
This little post is just to thank the moderators for their time and effort in making a real diiference to the microcar world

Those who give freely of their time whether offering technical support with both cars and internet or bringing a smile to readers with their wit desesrve much more than critism when something strange happens

My own experience with computers is similar to the cars --no such thing as a 5 minute job.  I would rather be in the garage rebuilding than at the desk failing to solve Bill Gates created problems
