I wonder if this sidecar has any connection with the people that made the Velorex microcar? You could turn this into a microcar if you had a mind to! ;D

Yeah, looks like a Veloto!

Personally I think the Vespa/Lambretta (I forget which) scooter sidecars had a much more fitting shape, very Mopetta, got some pics around somewhere.
-
Do you mean the Bambino like this?
-
Yes that's the job.
-
Bambino, comes in several differing flavours and a commercial or two. Now highly collectable but used to be unwanted in the late '80's. I have a what I believe is a Ex RAC MkII Bambox. I do not know why though as I do not have a scooter.
The Velorex is really to big for scooters and was paired with Jawa machines. Bikers then took them as they were cheap and fitted them to all sorts. For the Scooter the Germans made several really nice chairs like the Royale and Stieb. Again collectable.
-
Thanks for that background Al. You are right about nobody wanting them at one time. I knew where several of them lay in folks gardens, I guess scooters were still waiting to make there comeback in the eighties so why would anyone want a sidecar for one?
Back to my original question, were Velorex chairs made by the same concern as the microcars?
-
They are related, but not the same people

Thanks Mr Chrome, thats very enlightening.

How about this one as a donor for a micro racing car?

I love it. A British Microcar version of American speed trials where they use larger drop tanks for clothing top speed salt flat cars. Off to Pendine Sands we go.
-
This whole thing about recycling aircraft drop tanks was totally new to me.
How unfortunate one would be to avoid all the bombs only to be flattened by a jettisoned watsonian sidecar/fuel tank! :(
-
How thourtful of bomber command to install a seat in the drop tank ready for it to be recycled. Now that is thinking ahead.

I would just love to go on a race track with that thing..; Even if its maybe slow!

Some interesting postings on this thread.
I like the sports car thing, like a grown pedal car ;D
I just wanted to add this pic:
Lambretta S1 with Bambini on the left, and Vespa P2 with Squire on the right.
Tubular mounting to the Lambretta frame on the Bambini meant I couldn't safely get the wheel up as well as the flat steel plate mounting of the Squire onto the Vespa.
Big Al,
Still interested in that Bambox you mentioned.
Did you get my PM????
-
Is that Market Harborough school of the old Scooter Jumble? I believe Squire are part of Watsonian now.
No I did not but will have a look.
-
I finally came across the picture of my Friend Tony at the old age of 17 (in 1975) with his Triumph Spitfire 650 and side car made from an aeroplane fuel drop tank.
It fell off once, skidding into the churchyard complete with passenger. At 17 you are still learning about how to attach things securely.

Great picture, the caper sounds like something out of "On the buses" !!
