Title: Newbie from Hamburg says hello - Mochet / Viking / 2CV / Fiat 500L
Post by: Oceanix on October 12, 2010, 09:07:20 PM
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I recently bought the Mochet delivery truck posted here in sales and auctions; and thought, their might be other Mochet drivers here. I will have to restore it and any type of detailed photos, literature, repair manual *dream on...*, data sheet, line card, whatever... would be wonderful.

Well, go ahead and tell me I paid a multiple of the market value - I figured that once I had pressed the "buy now" button myself...

Not sure if Fiat 500 or 2 CV are microcars but that is how it all started back in 1996 when I bought the Fiat 500L (early 1969 model) during a bicycle trip throughout Europe from 1st hand in Italy and took it back to Germany. It is still unrestored but in fair driving condition and still has the original 498cc twin engine: (http://i27.servimg.com/u/f27/15/27/57/70/beim_s10.jpg)

Maybe too big for a microcar is my 2CV from the early eighties with 597cc twin engine which regretfully is fully restored:

More of a micro truck is the Tempo Viking  - one of the first ones of this model only built from 1953 to 1956 with a 448cc twin - despite 17.5 hp it may load 750kgs:

It looks much larger than it actually is on this picture...

Lately added the Mochet, described here: http://www.rumcars.org/forum/index.php?topic=2386.0 (http://www.rumcars.org/forum/index.php?topic=2386.0) And I hope some of you can tell me more about it as this was obviously offered before out of a collection?

Thank you in advance and best regards from Hamburg  ;)

Hello there! I particularly like the Tempo Viking van, I am familiar with the 3 wheeled ones but have not seen one of these with 4 wheels. Is it a Heinkel engine?

You bought it from Dino, correct?
Dino is a German Mochet enthusiast.   He has/had quite a collection of Mochets but apparently needed to sell them and tried to offer them all as one lot, the entire collection of cars.
Apparently that did not work and now he is selling them separately?
or maybe someone bought a number of the cars but not this one?

Anyways now you have it!  Enjoy!

For sure it must be Dino's Mochet, and also i love the Tempo for sure. I still can remember me, as a child on the passengers seat bringing the fruits to the market with one of those tiny pick up cars.
Thanks for posting the photos anyway

Correct, it is the Heinkel engine. Vidal and Sohn built the small 3-Wheelers after the war which technically were based on the models from the 30ies. The larger Matador used a VW engine but VW stopped supplying engines when they introduced there T3 van series, thus Tempo used the (not very competitive) 2-stroke enigines from Heinkel.

The Wiking was built 53-55 (my mistake above) and used the Heinkel TE 452 which officially had 448cc.

There are not too many left of this model, the succeeding Wiking I was much larger and built much longer, it is more known. Indeed, this is the last and only model with the separate loading room known by the Tempo Association (www.tempo-dienst.de)

That is correct. He needs to return the garagehall to the landlord by the end of the year and in his new facility they have much less room and needs to be restaured first...

He sells these individually now and will keep 10 or so.

Thanks for the information Oceanix, I would love to see a photo of the Wiking with a person beside just to see the scale. I can tell from your interior photo that it is a small cab, but my brain is telling me that the exterior is larger than it probably is in reality!

The cabin really is pretty small. I am about 6 feet tall and can sit in it but do not know where to put my leg if driving in 1. or R. gear...

There is nothing on mochet.org about the delivery van, regretfully...

But the microcarfan homepage is fun to read  :D Thank you for the link  :)
